What he meant is that the REST of the core staff members, encoder and the typesetters are forming a new group so I highly recommend the group. I've briefly talked with the TL and he seems more than capable for translating SYD, even better than my level (which was essentially garbage, so it's not hard). The old staffs are all there, so for all I know, it'll be better than ever, albeit slower.

You're wondering why we're so slow recently.

I'll keep this brief then give a tl;dr:

TL is quitting. That means our group is not going to sub anything anymore.

Feel free to drop by our IRC to tell me how much of a fag I am and convince me otherwise. I'll stick around for a day to say good byes.

TL;DR (I'm not fucking kidding about TL part)

There are plenty of reasons why I decided this after musing over it a long while.

1) Shit subs are shit. I'd like to think you're trolls but even Nyaa seems to think so, and I want to give him at least some credibility. So I'm guessing flamers will be happy that there's less junk on the internet. So as some trolls have suggested, I'm going to go do some community work and make a difference while doing legal stuffs.

2) Waste of my time, the staffs' time and your time. The reception of our group has been lukewarm at best. I really don't like subbing Shukufuku, it's just a bad match for my taste, and it's licensed now. Doki does a better job (strictly statistical, as I've never watched their release to vouch for it) with the release and I'm sure it's worth waiting a few more days for their quality. No, I can't recommend Commie. I'm not saying they're bad. It's just that if we stop subbing Shukufuku, they'll have no TL to rip from. Can't recommend something that's not there.

So alternatively, I considered dropping Shukufuku and subbing SYD only, but it's a waste of the group's time. I love the series but with ~400 downloads for ~24 hours of work (collective of all group members)--my defection will affect very little people. We put a lot of time and effort in SYD especially, but no one cares right?

3) I always said this is going to be a hobby. So sorry to piss on everyone's bonfire, but I'm bored of that hobby now. For the reason listed in 2), there's no fruition to this that's enticing me to sub anymore. University's coming back soon, so I better pick up a useful hobby that'll help me get employed instead.

4) Just 'cause I can. Why do people say "you can't quit fansubbing"? I never understood where this sense of obligation comes from. And from this odd sense of obligation, fans misinterpret that they're entitled to fansubs. Sorry, you're not. You're supposed to shut the fuck up and take whatever subs we give you whether it's shit or godly. You should give constructive criticism when you can. You should say thank you, and be grateful if not. Else, you should keep quiet. Fansubbers are putting hours of selfless work to do you a favor, and there you are, asking them to quit. This is why I say "common sense is fucking dead" in the fansub scene. Why not take the time to help them improve so they can continue subbing for you?

I wonder if the leechers' attitude would change if all fansubbers decided to take hiatus until they gain some common sense. We should give this serious thought -- it might work.

5) I hate anime now. Watching anime was fun until I started subbing it.

6) Is fansubbing dying? Legal alternatives to fansubbing is starting to take off. Also, I heard a rumor that gg, ie. ElitistFags, aren't going to distribute .ts for any series gg is doing. (Rumor likely based on the fact they stopped releasing HOTD .ts as gg asked them not to.) That means we're supposed to die anyways after this season since they're doing all the good shows I would have liked to sub in the upcoming season. I should make clear, I'm not criticizing gg/ElitistFags about this, nor do I know even know if it's true. I'm just saying it the way it is: without a decent alternative to their .ts, we can't sub. Even if there was, we probably wouldn't bother. Read 2).

As for the staffs, thank you for sticking with me until now. I'm sure you'll be able to find a great new group to work with. The TL was the worst part of this group. If I ever decide to sub again, it'll be under a new alias, new group etc. I'll try my best to hide that I'm back so people who said "you can't quit fansubbing" can't say 'I TOLD U SO!!!!!one".

If I remember correctly, the director said there will be no third season when asked long time ago, but then again, they always say that when asked._.

Not worth the effort TLing all of this but the important to know is the director is deciding on whether or not to do a third season. (And usually... When they say "we won't do a sequel", they mean "we might do it but we're not sure yet." And when they say "we might" they mean "we're planning to". ._. Amirite?)

We appreciate everyone's patience for this week. I know our SYD release gets less than 1000 downloads, but it's nice to know some people still appreciate our work. Our past 3 releases have been always within 12 hours of air time, so we hope you understand this is a one time thing.

This was a hilarious episode though, so I hope you enjoy it. And as always, blame all mistakes and errors with the release to SiegN.

I know many of you are waiting for our SYD release, but I can't give a timely ETA. It will be within the next 24 hours for sure though. I stayed up all night and morning (it's 10 AM at the time of this writing) waiting for the encodes to finish so I need some sleep first. I'll need a clear (read: perverted) mind to TL SYD properly. Current progress is typesetting is done, timing is done, and 30% of TL is done.

Thank you everyone for being patient, it was really beyond our control. (The other groups' release of SYD was probably using Zero-Raw or something. Our encoder is rather picky (read: total faggot with invincible e-peen) when it comes to doing his job so he didn't want to work with VFR and waited for Elitist Fag's .ts.)

Part of me is hoping for Season 3, but I just don't think there's any material left for them to work with. Even season 2 seemed forced. The Gaiden and the 1st season was incredible to watch though.

We use Elitist Fags' .ts for our encode. I have finished TL and timing to whatever crappy raw I could find, but until they are back (I dunno what happened to them; someone let us know if you know?), or there is another decent raw, we cannot make any further progress.

Good news is, once there is a raw, it'll probably released within 3 hours from that time.

Instead, I hope Darker than Black Gaiden 4 can keep you happy, coming later today.

Udate: before people start sending in the Zero-raw link, our encoder won't use it because it's VFR. We're still waiting for hopefully elitist fags. Be patient!

This was mostly anime only content. Thanks to our typesetters as usual but especially SiegN who worked on the one from 7:37 to 7:45. It took him a couple of hours, and the typeset was twice as long as the actual script. That's dedication. (Maybe there was a more efficient way of doing it, but he's still learning.)

I did slack off this release, so... We're not even a speed sub group anymore huh? :P

1) I like the series.

2) We can learn a lot from a more experienced group.

3) If GSS's TL sucks, but CoalGuys' doesn't (or, for very few of you it might be vice versa), what does that tell me about how many of you are trolls?

So after releasing SYD today, we were just chatting about how retarded our group name is. And a conversation along these lines took place (not exact transcript):
Takeshima: "isn't there already a group named God-Speed Subs?"
GSO: "Yes. that's us. Sup?"
Takeshima: "oh really? wtf, I thought this group was named godspeedotaku or something"
GSO: "Where you been? gso=short for godspeedotaku. When we first started, it was just me, so I never really thought of it that far, but still... I figured people would make the connection from GSO->GSS."

We've been at this 12 hours straight... Too lazy to even bother posting a screenshot. Trust me, this is a fun anime to watch, but it's hell to sub.

I dunno how Ayako does it. I swear, they have one translator for each line.

Oh, and A-Wsubs are so awesome. They're 9001x better than Ayako. Much better translations, if not EXACTLY THE SAME. /sarcasm

I think people will be very pleased with the typesets though. colormeKEVO and SiegN put a lot of time into them so make sure you drop by our IRC to tell them thanks.

The same problem as Ookami-san this anime has, in my opinion... The characters stand out too much for their own good.

Anyways, much better than the first episode. This time, something actually happened. And plenty of fan service, little bit of humor. The art continues to impress. I might actually end up liking this anime more than I expected.

K-ON!! 14 released by coalguys & Update on our projects

This is sorta random, but remember how I wanted to do K-ON!! but we couldn't 'cause we didn't have our own capper?

I just messaged Mango-chan from coalguys yesterday saying I wanted to help out with K-ON!! 14 timing 'cause I happened to be bored yesterday... Incidentally Mango-chan happened to be feeling lazy. I won't elaborate how it happened (because to be honest, I have no idea how it turned out like this), but I ended up timing/TLing it for them.

Looking at the final release, there's a lot I (or you know, our edittor) could learn from them, especially in terms of editing.

So there ya go, check their K-ON!! 14 out.

PS: And also, we've finalized our decision on our projects for the summer season. We're keeping SYD and Shukufuku as we promised. We're dropping Amagami as we said we might. There were already two great groups on it, and our contribution would have been minimal. I hope you respect our decision regarding this and hope it will, in turn, allow us to focus and bring our other two projects up and beyond your expectations.

Great episode overall, but it stays very true for the manga. I suggest no one reads the manga, if you don't want to spoil the jokes for yourself.

However, aside from OP and ED from being missing (will be subbed with next release), in terms of typesets, this is our best release ever. I was happy (read: f**king pissed) to see we're getting to experiment (read: waste our f**king time) with the typesets (read:@#*$!#$!**).

Things to note from this episode: I don't think there any obscure translation (I made a huge effort to make all jokes work in English without deviating from Japanese too much), BUT some of you might complain about the censor. I'm only censoring what they are censoring so... Maybe gimme feed back on if you think it was the right choice.

For an eroge adaptdation, there was a lot less (read: none) fanservice than I thought, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Expect slow download speeds D: We don't have a distro, and I usually use campus internet (1.8 mb/s upload) to seed, but it was too late at the time of release to head over to university (so we suffer with 50kb/s until tomorrow).

As for, whether we're going to continue with it or not? Short answer: Yes. The turn off for me was I expected something like kiss x sis, but it was more cutesy than ecchi. Great artwork and design, although not exactly the most enticing plot. We're a new (read: "shitty" in your kind words) group so this might be a good series for us to grow into since no other (speed)sub groups are doing it. Instead, we might drop Amagami since two supermega groups are already drowning us out with their fans.

Update: Just noticed there were some weird lines (short dialogues were displayed as 3 lines).

Ran into some major delays due to timezone incompatibilities between staffs (Script was done within 8 hours of release, but encoding wasn't ready until I already had gone to bed.)

Hopefully it won't happen again. It'd be great if we had some new recruits who wants to join the group and help prevent that =)

This is hopefully our last beta release. It is the last (or second last) release before the summer season begins, so we tried to really push ourselves to get the typesetting down. Overall, we are happy with it.

This is the last episode of Arakawa under the Bridge. What a fun little series this has been. Although I have to say, it's slightly odd that the series ends this way. I'd think episode 12 would have been a better final episode. 13 just felt like an OAV. By the way, season 2 is confirmed.

No .ass script release for now

Just a quick update:

The way our group usually handle things is we release the .ass as soon as it's ready, then we release the muxed version. We do this hoping that it allows our fans to watch their anime as quick as possible, assuming they already had the raw.

The staffs already discussed how this might potentially lead to people stealing our scripts and taking credit for it. I told them this:

1) "I hope there's no one stupid enough to actually use my translation xD" (ie. If they did, they're not important enough.
2) "If there's someone actually smart using my translation, I'd be honored." (ie. OMG, what if Eclipse stole my script! I'd actually be happy about that!)

The 1) actually happened. (Sure they can use our script with permission, but they removed the "Presented by [God-Speed Subs]", and asked for no permission) So I think some precautions need to be taken. For now, we will stop releasing the .ass files.

We removed the OP and ED since we don't plan on continuing with the series atm, but if we do decide to finish it, we will work on them.

Ah... KWMS is surprisingly hard to translate.

Note: There's a pun on maid towards the end, which was impossible to make it work, so I fudged things a bit.

I think this is our first release that there isn't anything major to complain about =)

It seems like every other fansub group has an IRC. Admittedly I don't use IRC often, but our new encoder EienShouko who's also part of a great group FFFPeeps has volunteered to also manage the IRC. I will start to learn a thing or two about encoding from him as well, and that'll speed up our releases.

It's not quite ready but... Hopefully the IRC will allow us to get in touch with more people who don't like e-mailing me, leaving comments on this blog, or contact me through WAO forums due to all the related inconvenience. (I also have a twitter with 0 followers by the way.)

By the way, that also means we're not desperate for encoders anymore. But we'd welcome you to talk to us and see what we can do. I do believe however, it'll be best if we just have one or two dedicated encoders than many that often goes MIA.

But we're not done recruiting. Look at this blog. It's just bad----really bad. We might need help with the web stuff.

Update on this: I think we're going to do K-ON tomorrow, but as another experimental release to coordinate things with our encoder. Besides, it seems a bit half assed to pick up an anime half way through.

In the end, it's decided that we will (try to) write subtitles in .ass. Why try to? Long story short, some of the translation team are not exactly jumping onboard. I always do the editting however, so right now, we're going to try converting .smi, and then getting rid of any odd .smi specific codes during editting.

In any case, I respect their appreciation for both speed and quality, so they'd have a good foundation to base their criticisms on a new group like us.

This episode was really touching. It was great to see two different kinds of love becoming more prominent.Other than that, just note that even though Episode 99 says "Conclusion" there's one more episode to go in this series.

There is no OP or ED subtitles as there's only one more episode left. It's a waste of effort for us.

Update: The post was taken down for a moment while I edit the smi file for various errors. There was a line that was missing, and several typos here and there. While I was at it, I fixed many dialogues that sounded awkward.

This was our first, experimental release... We will not likely do this series on a regular basis.

We learnt a lot from the first release, and we expect to see much improvements in quality, while maintaining speed for our upcoming releases!

Seems the V1 subtitle is being streamed on big anime sites already. Those Chinese Characters in the OP and ED are not really Chinese... Just gibberish. The person encoding the smi in to the video made a slight mistake and used a font that's not compatible with Japanese.

Next beta release will be Arakawa under Bridge 12. Check back Sunday!
